Dog taken away by police after caught chasing deer, becomes social media sensation

If there’s anything we love, it’s stories about dogs – and this one brings us joy like no other.

Meet Finn, the six-year-old rescue pooch who chased a deer and landed himself in the back of a police car looking ever so impressed.

Finn’s owner, Emme Thompson, 21, insists he’s really ‘a good boy’ with a deer issue, adding that he’s ‘very cuddly and sweet’. We hope it was just a misunderstanding.

Emme’s dad, Reid Thompson, and his girlfriend, Ashley Goodridge, were walking Finn on Saturday when they let him off his lead.

The next time they saw him he was being temporarily detained by the Ontario Provincial Police. You just couldn’t make this up.

Speaking to LADbible, Emme said: “My dad and his girlfriend were walking Finn at a local trail system and decided to let him go off leash.

“He’s normally able to do this without a problem and stays close by. I guess he caught the scent of a deer because he took off into the bush, not responding to their calls and whistles.

“They had made their way back to the trail head when he received a call from the Ontario Provincial Police saying that they had Finn and he had caused some chaos chasing a deer along a nearby road.

“He’s an extremely fast runner and inevitably caught up to the deer, he’s much smaller than a deer so it got away and he gave up the chase.

“Finn was only temporarily detained until he was released back to my dad, after a lecture about keeping him on his leash.

They said someone may be in touch with us, but we’re hoping the worst case scenario is just a fine.”

Emme, a psychology student at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, tweeted about the incident, writing:

At the time of writing, the tweet has racked up more than 628,000 likes and has been retweeted over 182,000 times.

Emme continued: “He’s very cuddly and sweet. He’s very friendly around people, other dogs, babies, even other animals like squirrels! It’s really only deer that seem to bother him.

“I thought the photo was funny but started to worry when my dad told me that there was a chance we could be fined or Finn would be put down.

“It looks like he got off with just a warning though so now we’re free to laugh at the whole situation.

“People’s reactions have been good for the most part, a couple of people are concerned about the deer, but mostly people are worried about Finn.

“They understand that it’s in a dogs instinct to chase things and are glad he is safe.”

Some Twitter users stood in solidarity with Finn and it’s absolutely hilarious.

But we have no doubt Finn’s “perp walk” will live on in Internet meme infamy….As long as Finn is alright, we’re alright.
