A dog that has been properly trained to assist persons with impairments is known as a service dog. A guide dog is the most popular kind of service dog and is used to assist the blind or those with impaired eyesight. Other kinds of service animals can help those who have hearing difficulties, seizure disorders, or mobility issues.

If you’re wondering, a service dog is a unique breed of dog. Numerous canines can be taught to pick up objects, alert to changes in blood sugar levels, assist with balance, break up repetitious patterns, and provide comfort.

However, not all dogs are suited for walking around in public. While visiting a mall may not seem difficult, many dogs find it to be quite stressful due to the crowds, the noise, the glossy surfaces, the carts, the elevators, etc.

Depressed 9/11 Rescue Dogs

Finding survivors was a thankless and perilous task. The rescue teams faced obstacles like combustible material and difficult access. Some people used dogs to help in their endeavors.

Only 23 persons were recovered from the rubble after the collapse, 15 of whom were rescuers who had jeopardized their own security. 27 hours after the collapse, the last survivor was extracted by rescuers.

Rescue dogs would grow significantly upset because they were finding so few live survivors and felt like they weren’t doing a good enough job.

To raise the spirits and morale of the dogs, handlers would hide among the debris and let the animals “discover” them.
