The Brousseau family from Portland, Connecticut, adopted a rescue dog named Duke 6 years ago. He was instantly part of the family and loved by all, but his parents had no idea that adopting this pup would be one of the most important decisions they ever made.

One night, after going to bed, Jenna and her husband were woken up by Duke. Usually an obedient and calm dog, it was out of character for him to jump up on the bed in the middle of the night.
Already alarmed by his behavior, Jenna then noticed that Duke was shaking uncontrollably. Knowing something was wrong, the couple ran to check on their 9-week-old baby girl, Harper, in the next room.

When they went to check on their daughter, the young couple saw she wasn’t breathing, so they quickly called 9-1-1.

Thankfully, Harper was able to be revived by the paramedics. Then, she was rushed to the hospital where she was able to make a full recovery.

Doctors weren’t sure what caused Harper to stop breathing, but it’s clear that if it wasn’t for Duke alerting the parents, she would have died. The loyal pup is truly a family protector!
Adopting a pet can save the life of an animal, but most people don’t realize that those loving creatures can also save our lives in return.
