Foster Kitten’s Nap Turns Into A Perfectly Spooky Optical Illusion

Jen and Adrian Davis have spent the past two and a half years opening their home to kittens in need through Best Friends Felines — and they wouldn’t trade it for anything. Recently, the experienced foster parents welcomed four tiny orphaned kittens who quickly filled their house with chaos, cuddles and nonstop cuteness.

The kittens — Namaari, TukTuk, Boun and Sisu, named after characters from Raya and the Last Dragon — are exactly what you’d expect: playful, affectionate and just mischievous enough to keep things interesting. And leading the charge is Namaari.

“She’s incredibly sweet,” Jen Davis told The Dodo. “Most of our hand-raised kittens are, but Namaari is also a bit of a drama queen. If her siblings play too rough, she’s the first one to complain.”

One particularly busy day wore the kittens out completely. They posed for a fundraising calendar photo shoot and met several families interested in adopting them. After all that excitement, the tiny crew finally collapsed into a deep, much-needed nap.

That’s when Jen and Adrian noticed something hilarious — and slightly unsettling.

Namaari had curled up with her brothers in such a peculiar position that it looked like she had completely lost her head. Tucked perfectly into the pile of fur, her body created a bizarre optical illusion that made the kitten appear headless.

Naturally, her foster parents grabbed their camera.

“This litter loves sleeping in strange positions,” Davis said. “But this was definitely one of the funniest ways Namaari has ever curled up.”

The photo quickly made its way online, delighting viewers with its spooky-but-silly vibe. Thankfully, Namaari’s head was exactly where it should be, and the moment was just another example of her quirky personality.

Best of all, Namaari has since been matched with her forever family. In just a few weeks, she’ll head to her new home — where she’s sure to continue charming everyone with her dramatic flair, goofy naps and endless purrs.
