He Was So Starving, He Ate Trash To Survive – Witnesses Knew He Deserved Better

Hope For Paws, an animal rescue organization, received a call regarding a pup who had been roaming the streets all alone. Since he was homeless, garbage was all he had to eat and would often search for food in piles of trash in the street.

Volunteers Lisa Arturo and JoAnn Wiltz drove to the area to find the stray dog. Once they saw him on the sidewalk near a pile of trash, they held out food to him to try and coax him near them. But the dog was very reluctant to get close enough to them to take it, since he was timid and wasn’t used to human interaction.

The women knew he was starving so they left food and water on the street and waited for him to get comfortable with them being nearby. He eventually began eating the food, so they left some more on the floor near the bowl.

When he went to eat it, they were able to quickly get a snare around him. He was terrified, freaked out, and tried to get away, but he was already in the snare. At one point, he even tried to chew his way out of the snare, so they knew they had to act quickly if they wanted this rescue to be successful.

With help from kind people in the neighborhood, they were able to get the dog into a crate and then took the snare off of him. They lifted the crate into their car and took him back to their clinic.

The pup, who they decided to name Jet, was still very leery of people. It was obvious that he had little to no human interaction during his life. He didn’t want to be near anyone, and would hide the best he could from them.

They knew they needed to gain his trust, so they initially used a towel to pet him. They then decided that their interaction with him may not be enough to help him loosen up, so they sent him for training and rehabilitation at Sunny Day Acres.

A few weeks later, Jet was not afraid anymore and his entire demeanor changed! Once he felt safe and gained people’s trust again, he began to break out of his shell. He is a very friendly pup who is now so outgoing and loves playing with his new doggy friends. And best of all, he’s found a furever home!
