Retired Dallas Police Officer Ron Catlin has just experienced one of the hardest times of his life: saying goodbye to his beloved K9 partner, Barba.
Sadly, 11-year-old Barna was recently euthanized after suffering from kidney failure. Test results showed blood in her stomach from the liver, which was most likely cancer.
Catlin and Barna had just retired together within the last year. Barna served the TSA and Dallas Police Department for ten years as an explosive detective canine.
She has had an extremely successful career with a long list of accomplishments.
She worked for every living President, including Bush Sr., Dalai Lama, Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks, Super Bowl events in Dallas, TX/OU games, Final 4 basketball and the first College Football Championship.
Catlin says she also responded to the downtown Dallas shooting on July 7, 2016, with the entire team for a long night of searching.
During Barna’s retirement, Catlin says Barna loved going for walks and meeting new people. Catlin even removed the “NOT” in the “DO NOT PET” patch from her police vest, so that people would know to pet her during their walks.
Catlin took to Facebook to share Barna’s story, and within hours, the post went viral with more than 14k likes and thousands of people from all over the world mourning her loss with him.
“I just wanted to take her home and back to work just one more time,” Catlin wrote on Facebook.
“Barna will be missed but never forgotten. RIP Barna Catlin #P337. I love you.”
