Louisiana Residents Captured A Very Rare Sight, A Pink Dolphin Swimming In The River

The public was surprised to hear that any dolphins could be spotted in Louisiana’s Lake Calcasieu. That’s right… a lake! But because of the lake’s salt content, dolphins can thrive in the brackish waters. But to spot a PINK DOLPHIN, that’s just crazy! But 💯 % true!

Pinkie was first seen in 2007 and the public fell head over heels in love with the rare dolphin. Some scientists speculate that Pinkie is partially albino, some think it’s a genetic anomaly. But ALL agree she’s gorgeous!

Pinkie’s mom, seen with Pinkie below, is a normal color but it’s unknown what her dad looks like. Genetic mutations can happen that can even change their color significantly.

Since Pinkie was first spotted, tourists actually charter boats just to try and see the celebrity dolphin in all her glory. She’s healthy, happy, and many people’s favorite color! She’s been reported to be friendly as well. Boat captains even say she purposely comes close up to play in their wake and say “hi.”

The best news: Pinkie has been seen mating recently. Who knows… maybe there will be pink babies soon!
