Dogs are such kind and caring animals. They have a great sense for when someone needs a friend, and won’t hesitate to befriend them, even if they’re an animal of a very different species.
That was the case for one cow, who was accepted by a pack of pet dogs in a story that shows the two species have more in common than we think.
According to The Dodo, Haru the mini cow was rescued by Amber Sullivan-Vo and her husband Anthony. They saw a post on Craigslist, and learned that Haru was rejected by his herd for being smaller than the other cows.
But while Haru had a hard time fitting in with his own herd, he found an unexpected new friend group after arriving on the farm.
According to Instagram the couple has “35 fosters and counting,” including 9 rescue dogs.
It turned out that the cow got along particularly well with the dogs. “Haru really likes our dogs!” Amber told The Dodo. “He warmed up to [them] in about a week.”
Haru went from being too small for his own herd to being much bigger than all his new dog friends, but the size difference hasn’t gotten in the way of their sweet bond.
“He lowers his head when our dogs are around to let them play or give him kisses,” Amber said. “They all hang out together in the yard.”
The owners say that Haru always bonds with their foster puppies. In an Instagram post, they said that Haru’s best friend was a dog named Ashla.
“She adored him from the first moment she saw him and jumped up and gave him tons of kisses, from there their love story started,” the owners wrote. “Haru still waits for more puppies to give him kisses, but Ashla was definitely his best friend. She was always so excited to see him, and he was excited to see her.”
Ashla has since been adopted, but Haru still befriends every dog he meets.
In fact, Haru has spent so much time bonding with his dog friends that he’s starting to act like a puppy.
Haru is certainly fitting in, and we’re glad that he finally found a “herd” that loves him just the way he is!
