Police Officers Discover Puppy So Emaciated They Could See Every Bone In Her Tiny Body

Police officers responded to a call about a burglary in New Castle, Pennsylvania. When they went inside to investigate, the came upon a locked bedroom. What they found inside horrified them and broke their hearts.

A tiny puppy lay helpless. She was so emaciated, they could see every bone in her frail body. Still, she was happy to see them. She weakly wagged her tail and tried to crawl over to say hello.

The officers picked up the tiny dog and brought her to the precinct. The next morning, they took her directly to the Lawrence County Humane Society.

The veterinarian looked her over. He was shocked she was still alive. He estimated her age to be about 10 weeks old. She was anemic, obviously malnourished, and had a Staph infection.

She was in obvious pain and distress but only showed her rescuers, and those around her, pure puppy happiness.

“In the beginning, we weren’t sure that she’d make it,” Elissa Druschel, vice president of Lawrence County Humane Society, told The Dodo. “She was just so weak and emaciated. But she wouldn’t stop wagging her tail. It was going constantly.”

The medical staff gave her around the clock care, including multiple meals and medications. They named the little warrior Miranda.

Lawrence County Humane Society shared Miranda’s story on their Facebook page:

People were so moved by her story, and her fighting spirit, they continued to share the post hundreds (and hundreds!) of times.

Little Miranda was winning hearts and the public wanted her to know that. They began sending her Get Well Soon cards. The staff showed her each and every one of them!

Miranda and her friends at LCHS would like to thank the thoughtful children who wrote Get Well cards for her. She truly…

As Miranda got healthier, the staff wanted to place her with the family who would give her the doggy days possible. They all agreed that while she was loved by many, the best place for her was with the police officers that saved her life.

During treatment, the officers visited Miranda every single day! After they all discussed Miranda’s best options, the officers all agreed she belonged with Officer Mark Lewis. He would make the perfect dad and already loved Miranda so much. He would bring her into the precinct often to hang out with the rest of her forever family– her heroes in blue!

“Pretty much right off the bat I knew I wanted to adopt her,” Lewis told The Dodo. “I’m ecstatic to be bringing her home. She’ll never see that kind of life she had ever again. She’ll be the most spoiled little dog you’ll ever see.”

Just two months later, Miranda is in her forever home and as you can see she is thrilled to be there. She’s healthy, happy, and most of all… LOVED!

As for the owners who left Miranda behind:

“This person is going to trial soon and hopefully we get some justice for Miranda. To come from such a bad background to now being so loved by everyone … It’s amazing.”

Miranda will only remember what it’s like to be loved and cherished. Those horrible days are far behind her. Her future looks bright, filled with lots of tail wags and cuddles.
