A Kansas City Codes Enforcement officer was browsing through the footage of an isolated illegal dumping ground when the sight of a wandering Pit Bull caught his attention.
As the officer investigated the recording, he was shocked to find that the dog had been abandoned on that site 8 days prior.

The footage captured the dog, later named Mojave, mercilessly being kicked out of the car by his owner.
Mojave was confused for a while, but his heart sank when he saw his owner shutting the car door and driving off.
The dog disappeared from the footage while desperately chasing the speeding vehicle.

Later, several animal control officers rushed to the area to find Mojave. After hours of hunting, they were finally able to retrieve the cold and starving dog.
But the most fascinating thing happened just after Mojave’s vet visit – a sweet couple, unaware of the dog’s recently stressful past, fell in love with him and adopted him!
While Mojave found a new home within 30 minutes of rescue, the officers began looking into the footage.
After some days of investigation, Mojave’s owner was tracked down and charged with animal abandonment, not having a proper pet license, allowing an animal to run at large, and neglecting to have a Pit Bull breed neutered.

While Mojave has definitely been lucky with his rescue, many abandoned animals like him don’t share the same fate.
We hope his story serves as a lesson for the heartless owners who abandon pets without an ounce of mercy.
