Dalmatian Pups ‘Just Kept On Coming’ During Mama’s 14-Hour Labor

A three-year-old Dalmatian named Nellie went into labor, and the puppies “just kept on coming” during her 14-hour-long labor according to owner Louise Clement.

The final count for the litter ended up at a total of 18 pups — 10 males and eight females — nearly double the average size for a first time mother.

“I thought she’d stopped after number 15, because it looked like she had laid down to go to sleep. But then along came another one, and two more after that,” Louise said.

The litter came up one shy of the record tied by Velma the Dalmatian who had a total of 19 puppies. Neither came close to 101 Dalmatians, but we’re thinking that’s a good thing for all parties involved. 😉

Nellie had a great natural labor and is doing well and resting following the long birthing process.
