Owner’s “Play Dead” Trick With Beagle Makes Audience Roar

Beagles are known for having multiple characteristics, making them a popular choice amongst dog lovers. They are conveniently-sized, good-looking, not aggressive, easy to groom, intelligent, and fun to teach tricks. Overall, they make for ideal pet dogs, so if you’re looking around for a pet, beagles are a good way to go.

Plus, they have a great sense of humor. With a little training, a little love, and a lot of fun, anyone can have a blast with their beagle. The number of tricks and funt things you can do are endless. Just take a look at this entertaining clip.

Owner Michael Bower and his dog Bailey from Buffalo, have a dog trick that’s a hilarious take on an old favorite and are invited to show the world on national television with David Letterman. The video opens with Michael and Bailey making their entrance on stage to meet David, where he asks a few questions and gets to know them a little more. Michael is holding Bailey in his arms as she curiously looks around.

The host mentions that beagles can be snarky, and appears skeptical. That’s when Michael steps in and really shows David what’s up, and that he might actually be somewhat wrong. When Michael says his and the pup’s trick is to “…play dead then come back alive,” David sneers a little bit but is ready to see what the dog can do.

On David’s cue, Michael looks at his dog and simply says, “Bailey, play dead.” The dog doesn’t comply and David, for a fleeting moment, looks a little nervous. He tries again, “Bailey, play dead,” to which the dog instantly goes limp, her body dead weight in Michael’s arms, and the crowd, David included, is in stitches. They even did it a few times, each time funnier than the last. Bailey is quite the little actress!

One more bonus about this video: notice how right after Bailey has completed the trick for the final time, Michael is oblivious to David’s handshake, and rather than standing there awkwardly, David shakes Bailey’s back paw instead!
