BREAKING: Pet Food Recalled Due To Vitamin D Toxicity In 3 Dogs

The pet food brand, Nutrisca, based in St. Louis Missouri has just issued a voluntary recall for one formula of their dry food due to potentially toxic levels of Vitamin D.

Three separate pet owners contacted the company after their dogs suffered from Vitamin D toxicity after consuming the food. Sadly, the company joins many others in the growing number of recalls in the past few years.

According to the statement, the following food is being recalled:

4 lbs Nutrisca® Chicken and Chickpea Dry Dog Food, Bag UPC: 8-84244-12495-7

15 lbs Nutrisca® Chicken and Chickpea Dry Dog Food, Bag UPC: 8-84244-12795-8

28 lbs Nutrisca® Chicken and Chickpea Dry Dog Food, Bag UPC: 8-84244-12895-5

Bags affected by this recall have a ‘Best By Date’ code of February 25, 2020 through September 13, 2020 printed on each bag.

The recalled products were sold in retailers NATIONWIDE. No other Nutrisca products are affected.

Symptoms of Vitamin D Toxicity In Dogs:

  • vomiting
  • loss of appetite
  • increased thirst
  • increased urination
  • excessive drooling
  • weight loss

Vitamin D, when consumed at high levels, can cause serious health issues. This is to be taken seriously!

What should you do if you’re affected by the recall?

The FDA urges pet owners to stop feeding the recalled food to their pets. If pets in your home have consumed the food already and are exhibiting any of the symptoms above, are to contact their vet immediately!

If you have the products in your home, dispose of them or return them for a refund.
