Riley was found on the side of the road, lying in the grass unable to move. Thankfully, the Good Samaritan who found him, offered him some water and called Stray Rescue of St. Louis for help.
Rescuers carried him into their car and rushed him to the vet. His temperature was extremely low and he was covered in deep infected wounds.
His body weight was also very low and he was severely dehydrated. Vets began immediately treatment to try and save his life.

They put him on antibiotics, pain medications and fluids. Most importantly, they made sure he was resting comfortably and showered him with love.
The morning after his rescue, he was thankfully in good spirits and was even able to nibble on some food.

As the days went by, Riley was proving more and more just how much of a warrior he was.
“Riley, you are the true meaning of strength and bravery,” Stray Rescue wrote. “We know you will make it through this and feel better soon. You will never be pushed to the side ever again, because a world of love is waiting for you. Feel all the love and prayers from around the world, it will get easier, we promise.”

And Stray Rescue has not broken their promise.
Things certainly began looking up for Riley, who went on rides in a wagon to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. He even stood up on his own and started to take a few steps. Day by day, he continued to build up his inner strength.

Not only does he take a few steps but now he is able to fully walk! Ever since Riley found the strength to walk, he’s been on the move.
“He continues to get stronger every day on his healing journey, and he’s sweet as can be! #Warrior!” Stray Rescue wrote.

Riley’s unwavering strength and courage is an inspiration to all! He is expected to make a full recovery and will be available for adoption once he is fully healed.
