For most families, abandoning their beloved pet at an animal shelter would be heartbreaking. The reality, though, is that this happens every day at shelters around the globe.
What makes the situation even worse, though, is that the animal being dumped has no clue what is going on. All they know is that the family they loved is gone forever and they are in a new, scary place.

When Maverick the German Shepherd was dropped off at a shelter, his heart broke into pieces. The senior dog was so used to being with his family, he became extremely distraught when he was abandoned.

Unsure why he was left by the humans he loved, he began to punish himself. He wouldn’t look at any of the shelter workers and isolated himself in his misery.

One day, when he was finally brought out of his kennel by staff members, he was overwhelmed with fear. The stressed dog didn’t know what to do.

It had been so long since he was given real love and attention, he was unsure how to handle it.
But then, as they began to lead Maverick away from the kennel, he realized what was happening. His ears pricked up, his eyes shone, and a pep began to appear in his step.
He was going home!

As soon as he jumped into the car his new mom led him to, he had a look of pure joy on his face! His agony at the shelter was finally over.
It’s amazing just how much he transformed when he realized he wasn’t abandoned forever. Now, he’ll live out the rest of his days with a loving family to give him attention, affection, and all of the treats he could ever ask for! Congratulations, Maverick.
