Earlier this month, seven tiny puppy siblings were doing the only thing they could to survive — pressing their bodies together inside a cardboard box, trying to stay warm.
The puppies had been abandoned at a snow-covered dump in a remote area of Saskatchewan, Canada. With no shelter, no food and no guarantee anyone would ever pass by, their chances were frighteningly small. Still, they huddled close, peering out from the box as if hoping someone might notice them.

Against all odds, someone did.
A community member happened to spot a few fuzzy faces peeking out from the cardboard. Shocked by what they’d discovered, the passerby immediately shared the puppies’ location on a local Facebook page, asking for help. Police soon arrived and moved the puppies out of the freezing conditions and into safety.

Not long after, Pretty In Pink Animal Rescue was contacted. Co-founders Lindy Adams and Kristen Schick were heartbroken — though sadly not surprised.
“It’s always upsetting,” Adams and Schick told The Dodo. “But unfortunately, it’s something we see far too often.”
The puppies were transported to Prince Albert, where the rescue is based, and placed into the care of experienced rescuers. Each pup was examined and then settled into loving foster homes, where they could finally rest, eat and begin to heal.

With proper nutrition, warmth and medical care, the puppies have been growing stronger every day. Some needed extra attention and time to recover, but all seven are now moving in the right direction.
“Overall, they are doing well,” Adams and Schick said.
The rescue hopes the puppies’ story sheds light on Saskatchewan’s ongoing pet overpopulation crisis. They encourage community members to reach out to local rescues if they want to help — or if they ever come across an animal in need.
“Fostering makes an enormous difference,” they said. “Donations of supplies are always critically needed.”
Thanks to one person stopping, looking and speaking up, seven puppies were given a second chance at life — and this time, they won’t have to face the cold alone.
