Baby Goat Thinks German Shepherd Is Her Mama!

Shadow, a White German Shepherd, met the family’s new addition, a newborn Pygmy Goat and fell head over paws! Shadow immediately took to the goat as if he were one of her own. The cuddling and kisses that ensued are absolutely precious! Thankfully, the family got it all on video for our enjoyment.

Pygmy Goats originated in Africa and were exported to zoos. They now thrive as pets. The National Pygmy Goat Association has strict requirements for the breed. According to Time.com: “The goats must have specific coloring and be shorter than 2 ft. (60 cm) from the base of the neck to the ground. On adult males, the more hair growth, the better.”

White German Shepherds are the same breed as the German Shepherd. The white fur comes from a recessive gene. According to Wikipedia:

“In German Shepherds, the recessive gene for white coat hair was cast in the breed gene pool by the late 19th and early 20th-century breeding program that developed and expanded the German Shepherd Dog breed in Germany. A white herding dog named Greif was the grandfather of Horand von Grafrath, the dog acknowledged as the foundation of all contemporary German Shepherd bloodlines.”

Pretty interesting facts. Although not nearly as interesting as the video below!
