Imgur user KingKizer’s father adopted a 4-month-old puppy named Max from a shelter in California about three years ago.
Unfortunately, KingKizer’s father, who lived alone with Max, passed away. When he was discovered in his home, the family had to decide what to do with the dog.
KingKizer’s sister seemed like a good choice to adopt Max. She was a military veteran and ex-vet technician who had rescued dozens of stray and abandoned dogs and cats in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
KingKizer’s sister was in Oregon when the news of her father’s passing broke, so she drove to California where he was living to pick up Max and then drove him to her home in Austin, Texas.
She brought Max to her local veterinarian to get a routine checkup when it was discovered during his blood work that he had severe cirrhosis of the liver and wasn’t projected to live long after.
