The deserving dog in this story is still missing one big component: His happily ever after. But now he’s so much closer to that happy ending than he was before. Let’s meet DJ!
DJ lives at a shelter in New York City. This beautiful, deaf boy was found tethered to a pole in Brooklyn where he had been abandoned.
Because DJ is 11-years-old and deaf, DJ has now been at the shelter for too long… since 2017! That’s three whole years!

Senior dogs are often overlooked, but a senior dog with a disability takes a special type of adopter. Sadly, that adopter has yet to connect with this deserving dog.

Despite DJ’s setbacks, he is described as a sweet, calm boy. We all know how scary being in the shelter can be, but with DJ being deaf, he startles easily and barks when he gets overwhelmed or excited. This has scared off potential adopters.

This doesn’t mean that DJ isn’t worthy of a family. This only means his forever family hasn’t met him yet.
Although DJ was abandoned and tied to a pole, he does extremely well on a leash and loves going for walks. He will steal your heart with his soulful eyes and floppy ears.
As if he wasn’t adorable enough, his previous foster describes him as a “cuddly couch potato”.

The way to this boy’s heart will be with patience and love. But above all, acceptance. His human best friend, Nicole, featured in the video, knows another way to his heart is through treats. LOTS. OF. TREATS. He can’t get enough of them!

It saddens us that DJ could remain in the shelter until the end of his life but we can do something about it.
If you can’t open your home to DJ, you can do your part by passing his story along to friends and family. And they can share his story too!
We must come together as a community and do all we can for these harder to place dogs. They deserve their happily ever after too!
