Stray dog was starving alone in the mountains—when rescuers scan her, they make shocking discovery

When the Hope For Paws shelter rescue team in Southern California received a call about a starving dog living alone in the mountains, they had no idea that there were two lives they would change that day.

The shelter went to the mountain, prepared to find a dog desperately in need of medical assistance and then a search for a forever home.

The assumption was that the dog had been dumped, and her refusal to go with animal control had them wondering what was going on.

When they finally found her, though, underfed and suffering from hair loss, a trip to the vet revealed a startling discovery—she was microchipped, and her story was waiting nearby with her former owner!

According to the former owner, they were unable to take care of her any longer so they had given her away to another family.

Two years ago, though, the family had reported that the sweet-natured dog—whom the Hope For Paws crew decided to name Edna—was dead! Her old owner had spent the years following saddened that her life had been cut short.

Unfortunately, the old owners were unable to take her back in again, so she went into foster care. With more knowledge about her history, though, the Hope For Paws crew was able to piece together everything from her age to her medical history and help get her reacclimated to society again much faster.
