When the unthinkable happens to animals, we pray the right people come along. This time, they did!
A sweet, innocent dog that happens to be paralyzed was callously dumped by the ocean. He sat helpless, crying for an angel to appear.

Takis shelter received a call about the dog. The water was freezing and people were concerned.

When Takis showed up, the dog wasn’t sure what to think. His experiences with humans haven’t gone well. He barks defensively– out of fear.
His back legs were unable to move. His face was in bad shape and had a very large tumor. This dog needed a miracle and Takis and his volunteers were eager to try.

The dog continued to bark, refusing to budge, but finally something in him realized that these humans weren’t like the others.
As he calmed down, Takis was able to drag him out of the freezing waters, lie him on the sand and give him the first bit of affection.
Because of his handsome black coat, they named him “Black”.
The team brought Black back to the rescue center and warmed him by the fire. Takis willingly stayed up all night with him to work on gaining his trust.
While his guard was still up, the dog calmed enough for Takis to give him pain killers and antibiotics.

The best part: he let Takis really touch him. Not just passively. Black’s whole body relaxed as if he enjoyed it and truly trusted his hands on his body.
The vet advised Takis not to move the dog due to his injuries. It was best he remained as still as possible.
A short time later, after a thorough exam, Black was diagnosed with terminal cancer. His spine was also badly damaged.
Still, despite death being imminent, Takis was determined to give him a happy life until the end.
Black never had a happy life and this would be his one wish, if he could speak. And Takis knew that.
Black got a custom wheelchair. Look, he’s able to move around! Amazing!
Takis was never able to find out who dumped Black at that beach. Did they want him to die a slow death in the cold water?
Was it better for them to just rid themselves of the sick dog? It’s unimaginable to think anyone could be this cruel.

While Takis has been criticized in the press for his approach, he doesn’t care. His philosophy is simple: all animals deserve a happy life for as long as possible and euthanasia should be the very last option.
As you can see below in the video, Black can play fetch and smile. Does that look like a dog ready to give up? Takis doesn’t think so either!
Black even has a best friend, a little puppy, who lovingly holds onto his leash and chases him around.
