Teens Pack Car With As Many Koalas As They Can Fit To Save Them From Bushfires

Sadly, horrendous bushfires continue to spread across Australia, leaving half a billion animals dead and devastating everything in its path.

Thankfully, there are many incredible people out there who are risking their lives to save as many animals as possible, including these teenagers who set out to save the vulnerable koalas who were in most need of assistance.

The video below shows a car filled with koalas after 19-year-old Micah and 18-year-old Caleb saved as many as they could on Kangaroo Island and brought them to safety.

The pair have already managed to rescue nearly 20 koalas, including six orphans and two mothers who were with their babies.

The teens have unfortunately seen fire-hand just how awful the damage already is. They said that 60 percent of the koalas they saw have already burned to death.

The teens are getting help with their care and plan to release them back into the wild once the fires have ended.

Unfortunately, half of Kangaroo Island is thought to have been destroyed by the fires, and an estimated 20,000 koalas have already died.

The video was originally posted to Reddit with the caption: “Amid the terrible bushfires in Australia, my cousins went out and saved as many koalas as they could. Good on ’em.”
