A group of animal activists in China got a tip about truckloads of dogs being smuggled to a local dog meat festival. The dogs were either strays and stolen pets.
Without wasting any time, the activists set out to confront the dog-traffickers and rescue the dogs.

When cops arrived at the scene, they asked the activists to stay back while the “quarantine officers” handled the dogs.
After hours of being locked out of the gates, the hopeful activists were shocked to see the cops escorting the dog trucks to the slaughterhouse.
The poor activists realized that they had been played. The quarantine officers were actually dog-traffickers in disguise.
The cops ignored the Quarantine Law and let those dogs be taken away without proper verification of their origin or ownership certificates.

When the activists protested, the police mercilessly used force on them. The distraught rescuers were outnumbered and beaten by the massive security forces.
Altogether, two trucks were given a clearance for the festival and that sealed the fate of thousands of dogs that day. The activists just managed to save 3 dogs.

By the end of the day, the activists were left defeated. We are thankful to them for trying their best in this hostile situation.
But with a system so flawed, only mass awareness can help in the shutting down of this heinous practice.
