Why Do Dogs Chew Their Nails? It’s Not The Same Reason Some People Bite Their Nails

Have you ever noticed your dog chewing her nails or licking her paws? I bet you thought it was the same reason that some people bite their nails.

Okay, maybe you've never thought about it but, now that we're on the topic, dog scientists (a.k.a. veterinarians) have figured out the reason WHY dogs chew their nails and/or lick their paws.

According to Dr. Kathryn Primm, a practicing small animal veterinarian and practice owner at Applebrook Animal Hospital in Ooltewah, Tennessee, it's not the same reason that some people bit their nails (which can simply be a bad habit or a self soothing event for anxiety).
