Police Dog Fired For Being Too Friendly Gets New Job As Greeter

A German Shepherd puppy who was to be trained as a police dog has ended up with a different role after getting “fired for being too friendly”.

Gavel was recruited to become a Queensland Police Service Dog, but it soon became clear he didn’t have the characteristics for the job. But he’s landed a new career working for the Governor of Queensland, where he holds the official title Vice-Regal Dog.

Gavel’s duties now include greeting visitors at the Australian province’s official home and workplace of Queensland Governors. He also attends official functions and even sits in on briefings with the Governor. In his new role, he has “brought untold joy” to the staff and visitors to the estate.

Share Gavel’s sweet story with your friends and family.
