Dog Found Tied To A Tree In A Fire Gets Emotional When He Sees The Vet Who Saved His Life

West Palm Beach Fire Rescue responded to a brush fire, and they didn’t expect to see a dog in the middle of it. Someone said they noticed a dog stuck in the thicket, but as they approached they realized the dog was tied to a tree. The poor thing had burns all over his body.

Firefighter Marcos Orozca cut the two-year-old dog free and rushed over to Peggy Adams Animal Rescue for help. After being looked at by the medical team, the dog was transferred to Jupiter Pet Emergency & Specialty Center (JPESC) to receive specialized care for his burns.

The staff named the dog Smokey. The dog would need multiple blood transfusions, medicated baths, bandage changes, and about a dozen treatments in the hyperbaric chamber. The main veterinarian for all of Smokey’s treatments, Dr. Latimer, formed quite a bond with the dog.

After a few weeks of treatment, Smokey really started to come out of his shell. As his pain went away and he began to heal, it allowed the dog’s true personality to shine through. Smokey is going to be fostered by Captain Gregg Gordon until they find him a permanent home. He still has a ways to go in his recovery, but the dog’s safe, happy, and quickly regaining his health.

Investigators are still looking into what may have caused the fire, but fires are pretty common at these homeless camps in the area. It seems the dog was kept more as a guard rather than a pet since he had been chained up near a campsite.

Now it was time for Smokey to go back to JPESC and Dr. Latimer for a check-up, and let’s just say the reunion got a little emotional.

The dog was so happy to see the man who saved his life, he couldn’t contain his excitement. He ran toward the vet with his tail wagging and planted lots of kisses on him while also trying to get some hugs in. The bond these two formed is very apparent, and it’s an amazing thing to witness.
