When 27-year-old Tremaina Jalee Davis went to work, she locked her two-year-old Chihuahua in the car with the temperatures clocking in at 97 degrees. There was no water, food, or air conditioning in the car, so the chances of the dog surviving were slim to none.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department arrested Davis on animal abuse charges after her dog died inside the sweltering vehicle.

The small, light brown dog was inside a wire kennel that was locked in a car, which was “parked in direct sunlight with windows slightly cracked,” the sheriff’s department reported.
According to reports, someone Davis lived with did not want the dog, named Juju, in the house. For that reason, Davis found it acceptable to lock her dog in the vehicle, which led to the animal’s death.

Anyone who sees a pet locked in a car is asked to call 911 in the state of South Carolina. Each state has its own laws on what can and cannot be done for animals in danger in hot cars, so be sure to keep that in mind.
