10 Most Powerful Dog Breeds In The World

St. Bernard

You've probably seen many of these dogs in movies such as Beethoven, or even that scarier Stephen King movie, Cujo.

If so, you understand how big and strong these dogs really are.

The Saint Bernard is a massive and powerful dog with a thick, heavy coat.

It is considered a working dog that was originally bred to help travelers in the icy cold western Alps of Switzerland and Italy.

This, of course, explains their enormous size – all that body weight and fur protecting the dog from the freezing cold while rescuing stranded travelers.

The St. Bernard is categorized as a very large breed of working dog with the average weight of full-grown males being between 140 and 260 pounds (65 to 120 kilograms) or more!

…and the approximate height at the withers is 28 to 35 inches (70 to 90 centimeters).

This breed of dog also has a very fast growth rate and because they are so big and heavy, the weight of a St. Bernard can lead to very serious deterioration of the bones if the dog does not get proper food and exercise.
