Meet Judge Michael Cicconetti, an animal lover who hails from Painsville, Ohio. The man has recently became well known for the creative sentences he is handing out – to animal abusers. Judging by what he is doing, a taste of their own medicine is perhaps, the long-term solution to animal abuse – to ensure that offenders will never do it again to any other animal.
Since he was a young boy, the man has always loved animals, and shared a special bond with a sweet dachshund mix named Herman. Herman was his best friend, and marked the beginning of his lifetime love for dogs. Today, he enjoys the company of his Bernese mountain dog, Kasey. Early on in his career, Judge Mike had noticed that there were a lot of animal abuse and neglect cases that involved repeat offenders. Initially, he had sentenced them to both jail time and a fine, but that did not solve the problem.
Judge Mike has to stay within the parameters of the law, but could not help but introduce a speck of both discomfort and embarrassment to ensure that animal abusers learn their lesson for good.
Judge Mike recently sentenced a woman who had her emaciated and weak dog live in filthy conditions – she was to spend an entire day in the dump. “I want you to go down to the county dump, to the landfill, and I want them to find the stinkiest, smelliest, God-awful odor place they can find in that dump, and I want you to sit there for eight hours tomorrow, to think about what you did to that dog while you smell the odor. If you puke, you puke,” he said to her.
Another woman who dumped 35 kittens in the woods, and was sentenced to spend a night in the woods. Her sentence was accompanied with a short jail time as well as a fine. He asked: “How would you like to be dumped off at a metro park late at night, spend the night listening to the coyotes? Listening to the raccoons around you in the dark night, and sit out there in the cold not knowing where you’re going to get your next meal, not knowing when you are going to be rescued?”

Judge Mike hands out the unique sentences once he hears the entire case. He has been known to do so to other offenders of the law – with great success. He claims that it works, and he would continue to do so. His repeat offenders are stated to be at 10%, whereas the national average is 75%! Ruling with a creative spin, Judge Mike hopes that people would now think twice before breaking the law. In Ohio, abusing a companion animal is a felony, and Judge Mike is doing a fantastic job so far by keeping animal abuse in check!
