Woman Cradles Shelter Dog In Her Arms Overnight So He Won’t Die Alone

She wanted to be there for the shelter dog during his final moments..

Janine Guido of Speranza Animal Rescue spotted Watson one day, an exhausted and sickly shelter dog who had been found by a Good Samaritan in a park a week earlier. The emaciated Pit Bull was all covered in sores, and even had a huge cancerous tumor on his hind leg. Treatment was too late for him, and he was due to cross the rainbow bridge in a matter of hours.

Guido, who is a well-known animal lover within the Philadelphia animal rescue community, had a feeling that Watson did not have much time left to live. The woman made the decision to stay beside him. Guido had a gut feeling that things were not going to be good the next day. Thus, she did not want to leave him alone – not when he needed her the most.

Guido wanted to keep Watson company, doing her best to make him as comfortable as possible. She placed a bunch of blankets on the floor of the shelter, and laid down next to him and cradled him in her arms.

He fell in sleep in her arms, prompting Guido to cry herself to sleep along with the canine. When Guido awoke in the morning, Watson garnered the last of his strength to say goodbye and passed away shortly after doing so.“I’m just so thankful I was able to hold him tight for his last night. I was telling him how much he was loved — and that his life mattered. My heart is breaking, but I would not change a thing,” Guido says tearfully.

During Watson’s last moments on Earth, he had crossed the rainbow bridge, knowing how was it like to be loved by someone else. Rest in peace, dear Watson.
