Most people think of Las Vegas and wild nights when they think of a bachelor party, but for one Michigan groom, his night out with the boys turned into an impromptu puppy rescue mission.
Vicksburg, Michigan-based Mitchel Craddock was with some friends and family in a cabin for a quick getaway before his wedding, when he noticed a dog that had come to sit outside their cabin door when they cooked breakfast bacon.
“We were cooking bacon with the door open. The next thing you know, there’s this dog sitting right at the front door. She wouldn’t come inside, but she sat right there,” he told ABC News.
Mitch Craddock took seven friends to a Tennessee cabin and while cooking bacon found a stray dog on their porch. The group then found seven more puppies nearby covered in dirt and fleas, cleaned them up and took them home to Michigan.
While it took a minute for the dog to trust the eight men, they quickly warmed up to the famished animal.
“She was such a sweet dog that once we gained her trust, she was happy to see us, wagging her tail — just a big sweetheart,” he continues to say.
Caddock noticed that she must have just had pups when she started producing milk after being fed.
Concerned about the state of the puppies, the group of men decided to follow the dog and found that she was protecting seven of them in the forest.
Despite being dirty and flea-ridden, the dogs were surprisingly healthy and round.
“Every single one had a big fat belly on them. The mom had given the pups literally everything she had.”
The dogs were rescued, and the groomsmen and the groom have decided to each adopt one.
Everyone lives within a 5-mile radius of each other, so the dogs still manage to see each other often.
This may not have been the bachelor party they expected, but they all seem ecstatic about the memories they were able to build anyways! “We pooled a bunch of money to buy food and beer. After the third day, our beer fund turned into puppy food fund,” he laughs.
Along with the wedding, we’re sure Caddock and his new wife will have a lot of new memories to make with their new family member!
