Dr. Mohammad Awad just happened to be in the right place at the right time when he unexpectedly saved a dog’s life.
Dr. Awad was in the lobby of the Icon Building on Harbour Island in Tampa, Florida, with a woman and her dog standing nearby, outside of the elevator.
As the elevator door closes, the woman doesn’t realize that her dog’s leash is still inside. The doors close on the leash and the dog is dragged up to the ceiling as the elevator rises.
Dr. Awad immediately dropped the food he was holding on the ground and ran to help the dog. He tugged on the leash but was initially unsuccessful in setting the dog free.
He knew the next few seconds meant life or death for the dog, who was screaming as his collar grew tighter around his neck.
Dr. Awad tried again and eventually was able to snap the leash, setting the terrified dog free as he fell to the ground.
He may be a human physician, but he still examined the dog’s throat, gave him some water, and determined that he would be just fine.
If it weren’t for Dr. Awad’s quick instincts, and him being in the right place at the right time, this scary situation may have had a very different ending.
Watch the rescue below, which was caught on surveillance camera.
