The Chow Chow was the model breed for the Foo dog, which is a stone statue that can be found at the entrance of Buddhist temples and palaces, which is how it gets its nickname the Chinese Foo.
Chow Chows are common pets, and are a breed of dog that can be fiercely protective over their owners or families. They’re not very active dogs, though they are intelligent so you’ll want to make sure that your Chow Chow has daily stimulation to keep behavioral problems at bay.
Chow Chows tend to suffer from a number of health issues such as gastric cancer and skin melanoma, which may attribute to their life expectancy of 11 years.
