Adopted Child Gets Double Whammy Of Presents & Cries Tears Of Joy

Ten-year-old Emma Cahill has a lot to be thankful for these days. Formerly known as Emma Hickman, she was recently formally adopted by her foster family.

As a surprise for the holidays, her adoptive family gave Emma a puppy for Christmas.

“My real mom and dad, they started fighting and I didn’t like it when they did it in front of me,” Emma shared.

Phoenix resident Christina Hickman shared that she and her husband were able to adopt Emma on National Adoption Day in November. The family already had four children but they always wanted to have a girl and it never worked out…until now.

With Emma sitting on the couch on Christmas morning with her eyes closed, her dad snuck in and put her new Labrador puppy on the couch. When Emma opened her eyes, she started to cry tears of joy.

Having a new puppy, a new family, and a new start triggered a lot of emotions, but ultimately tears of joy dominated the day.

“I wasn’t expecting my mom and dad to give me a puppy,” Emma shared.

Congratulations, Emma!
