Rachel Howatt’s Husky, Koda, ran away from home, so she spent a lot of time looking for her in the woods near their home. She was worried, but a few days later the dog showed up back home like nothing ever happened.

But it wasn’t until a couple of days later that Rachel thought to check with her neighbor who has a trail camera set up. And sure enough, Koda was spotted on the cam — with a new friend.

Right beside her was a male deer just eating and napping with the dog as if they were lifelong friends.

“It was quite something,” Rachel told The Dodo. “Based on the time they spent on frame, it looked like they spent over 12 hours together. There’s also another photo where there’s two bucks in the picture with her.”

Rachel will do everything possible so that Koda doesn’t run away again in the future, but she thinks the dog may get the urge to go back out there to visit her friend again someday.
“Huskies have such a free spirit,” Rachel continued. “It doesn’t surprise me at all that Koda was trying to make a new friend.”
