People Shot Stray Dog With A Pellet Gun For Hanging Around Elementary School

Hope For Paws was alerted about a stray dog who’d spent the last nine months living by an elementary school.

The homeless dog was afraid of people and wouldn’t let anyone near, but some of the students had been able to feed her watermelon here and there.

It was Katie McKittrick and JoAnn Wiltz who arrived on scene for rescue. The dog was very hungry but hesitant to trust them.

They used some food to lure the girl over to the gentle snare knowing the stressful moments to come would be worth it in the end.

They named the dog Lilac and worked on gaining her trust a bit before loading her crate into the car to be taken back to the hospital.

Her fur was full of foxtails and thorns, and an X-ray revealed that she’d been shot by a pellet gun. She was never aggressive but just sat with her head in the corner in depression.

Lilac went on to be trained at Board and Behave after her procedure, and she had a breakthrough.

The good girl approached someone new for the very first time, and it was Tanja who Lilac ended up “adopting” to become her owner!

Just look at them together now. 🙂
