Older animals in a shelter often have a harder time finding new adoptive families. No one tends to want an older dog, mainly because of their health issues and medical bills. But for one man, none of that mattered.
When Steven Greig lost his beloved dog, he was heartbroken. He loved his dog, and it broke his heart that he was no longer with him. He tried many things to try and make it better, but nothing worked. Until he had the brightest idea. Why not give another dog a good life?
But he didn’t want just ‘any’ dog. So he decided to go to his local shelter, and walked in asking for their ‘least adoptable’ senior dog. But he didn’t stop there.
One by one, he went to the shelter to adopt senior dogs who needed homes. And after, he ended up with 10 old shelter dogs.
Every day, Greig wakes up early in the morning to prepare breakfast for his little family, since all of them have different diets. You can always see him with some of his dogs walking in the park, going to the vet, and cuddling on his couch.
“Whenever I sit or lie down at a dog friendly level, there are always at least three or four of [dogs] attached,” wrote Greig on Instagram.
Everyone knows that wherever Greig is, he will at least have a dog, or 10, following him.
But not only has he saved these adorable elder animals from the shelter, he also has a pig named Bikini, 2 ducks, pigeons, cats and even a few chickens to his large mix.
And he really doesn’t plan on stopping there. He also plans on adopting more senior dogs from the shelter, because he knows that just like any other dog, they need a lot of love and attention.
“They’re just wiser animals. You kind of know what you want out of life once you become a certain age. These dogs know who they are and it’s easy to develop a relationship with a person or pet who knows who they are. It’s just fulfilling knowing that these guys are happy and loved and well-taken care of. It makes my days worthwhile.”
We are so beyond thankful that this man had taken it upon himself to adopt these old dogs from the shelter when no one else would. He is one amazing man!
