Man Pretends To Be A Cop, Breaks Into Home & Shoots Family’s Dog Twice

A man pretended to be a confidential informant for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and then broke into a woman’s Florida home and shot one of her dogs with a pellet gun. He then proceeded to steal jewelry and cash.

The victim was sleeping on Monday around 7 in the morning when she heard the man yelling that he was with the sheriff’s office and had a warrant for her arrest.

While she hid in the closet, the man tried to kick her door in before breaking a window and coming into her house. Her three dogs began barking at him to protect their owner, which led the man to shooting one of them with a pellet gun.

The woman heard her dog yelp in pain and later found him locked in the bathroom with two pellet wounds.

During the break in, the victim’s friend showed up to the house and saw the thief, 35-year-old Jared Hainey, who also told the friend that he was an officer and to get on the ground.

The friend asked to see Hainey’s badge, which prompted Hainey to point a gun at the friend’s face and run away. The friend then chased Hainey down the street and was shot at twice by Hainey.

The police were called and quickly arrived at the scene to find Hainey hiding in the backyard of a nearby home.

Police found jewelry, cash and a camera that Hainey had stolen from the home. He also had two pocket knives, a small bat, and drugs, including crystal meth.
