When 3-year-old Aurora went missing one Friday afternoon, and couldn’t be found by her family, a search party of over 100 people began looking for her in the rural areas where she was last seen.
The search party included State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers, the police, and the general public who turned up to help look for the little girl. The party also included Aurora’s grandmother, Leisa Marie Bennett.
They searched for Aurora all of Friday, and when they couldn’t find her, they decided to continue searching the next day.
The next day, as Leisa was calling out Aurora’s name, their family dog, Max, appeared out of nowhere and began leading them into the woods.
Max, a 17-year-old Blue Heeler, was both deaf and partially blind. But that didn’t seem to stop him. He seemed on a mission today. He led the search party to a spot into the woods.
As they neared the spot, Leisa heard Aurora call out to her. Leisa couldn’t believe it! She rushed to the spot to find her granddaughter safe behind some bushes.
Aurora had spent 16 hours in the bushes through the cold, wet night. But she wasn’t alone.
Aurora revealed that she didn’t feel scared or cold, as Max was with her all along and had cozied up to her through the night to keep her warm and safe.
Even in his old age, Max was loyal and protective of his family to the hilt. How amazing is that?!
Aurora sure is a lucky girl to have a guardian like Max. For his loyalty and sense of duty, Max is being hailed as a hero, and rightfully so! He was even named as an honorary police dog for keeping Aurora safe. Go, Max!
