Workers Find Discarded Pup In Dumpster Moments Before She Would’ve Been Crushed

Waste Management Inc driver Danny Cormier and his coworker, Ahriel Jones Sr., thought it was just another typical day at work when they pulled up to the Speedway store at Manatee River Road and Lakewood Ranch Blvd in Manatee County, Florida.

But it would soon prove to be far different from any other day they’ve experienced while on the job.

Cormier got out of their garbage truck to open the gates to the bin before Jones dumped the first dumpster into their truck. As Jones was about to pick up the second dumpster, Cormier saw a tiny head pop up.

He realized it was a dog and immediately stopped Jones. Thankfully, the pup was still alive, but it was obvious that she had been dumped there on purpose.

Surrounding the dog was furniture and other belongings that someone had thrown out, including the dog’s crate.

The workers believe the dog was inside the crate when she was discarded, but managed to get out of it.

The poor pup was shaking with fear, but the men worked together to bring her to safety.

“I don’t understand why people who would do this,” Cormier told the Bradenton Herald. “There are plenty of shelters who would have taken the dog or I’m sure someone on Facebook would have given her a home.”

They handed her over to a Manatee County Sherrif’s Office deputy who brought her inside Speedway for food and water. She was then taken in by Manatee County Animal Services, where she is being cared for.

She is estimated to be around six months old and is a Pit Bull mix. Thankfully, she is healthy and active.

Detectives are now trying to determine how this puppy ended up inside a crate in a dumpster behind the Speedway gas station at LWR Blvd. and SR 64. If you know any information that could help them find the person responsible, please call the Sherriff’s Office at 941-747-3011.
