No Charges Filed Against Owners Of Dog Who Rubberbanded His Mouth Shut

A sweet dog named Wyatt who spent over two weeks with rubberbands tied around his snout is no longer in the care of his abusers. However, the State Attorney where the incident occurred has decided not to file charges against the family.

In a statement posted online by the Jackson County State’s Attorney, Michael C. Carr, it is stated, “The purported suspect is 7 years old. His parents, as well as his siblings, indicated he was known to attempt to braid the hair of the household dogs with rubber bands in the past.”

He goes on to say the dog, a Shih Tzu, was surrendered to the humane shelter along with two other dogs as well. However, the veterinarian who treated Wyatt has something to say.

Veterinarian Dr. Kay Crese stated the rubber bands appeared to be on the animal’s snout for least a few weeks. It took almost three hours of surgery to remove them.

Prior to that, St. Francis CARE reported Wyatt was unable to eat or drink since the rubber bands cut off his circulation. Wyatt was put up for adoption recently and when someone is selected, their name will not be revealed.

We wish you a happy life going forward, sweetie!
