
17. A breed of hunting dog, known as the basenji, doesn’t bark. Because of the unusual shape of their voice boxes, they actually “yodel.” It’s been said to sound like they’re saying “baroo!”
Barking is just one form of vocal communication that dogs use to try and express themselves. Dogs will sometimes bark to have a need met, like getting more food or water.
Dogs also more commonly bark to protect their territory from unfamiliar people or from other unfamiliar dogs that are getting too close for comfort.
